Discovered by the French scientist René Gattefossé, Lavender was shown to speed up wound healing. He found this to be true when he used it after he was severely burned in a Laboratory explosion. This oil is one of the few to still be listed in the British Pharmacopoeia which provides official standards of medicine for over 100 countries.
Medically this oil has been used as an anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and anti-fungal. It has aslo been used as a relaxant and an anticonvulsant. When used topically, it is generally wonderful for the skin, assisting in the relief of acne, eczema, psoriasis, scaring, stretch marks, and as mentioned before, burns. As an aromatic it helps to calm, relax and find balance both physically and emotionally. A Study from the University of Miami found that breathing in Lavender oil increased beta waves in the brain which are involved in conscious thought and logical thinking.
Fun Anecdote:
As a classically trained Clarinetist I found myself with the opportunity to play a Concerto accompanied by my University’s Orchestra. Now, I am the type of person that gets nervous during any sort of me vs. crowd interaction and this was on a completely different level! The day of the concert I truly didnt know how I would react when I got on stage. I found this Lavender oil vape pen (it was just the oil because I didn’t need any help getting lost in my own thoughts, haha) and I was ingesting the oil through that in addition to rubbing the oil ALL OVER my temples and third eye. I always say, “I don’t care if it’s all in my head, if it’s working then it’s working!” Even then as I stepped on stage proverbial fingers were crossed. I will tell you, that was the first time I didn’t shake on stage. I was fully present and it was one of the best musical experiences of my life.
Obviously the benefits will vary from individual to individual because we all have different thought patterns and body chemistry but I think its worth a try :)
If you have some Lavender oil take a drop on your finger and place it between your brows, the location of your third eye chakra. Then take a few drops in your hands and rub them together, making sure to take slow deep breaths. Hover your palms over your face and say to yourself: I see peace in my journey, I see balance on my path.
